Chinwe, the 16-year-old girl that was recently married to a 56-year-old man in Ozubulu, Anambra state, has been rescued and discovered to be a nursing mother. She currently has a six-month-old child, according to the rights activist who rescued her.
The wedding between the young girl and the man had generated wide condemnation for some days.
Prince Gwamnishu Harrison, a Delta state-born activist, confirmed that she had been rescued with her six months old baby.
Harrison, who expressed excitement that he finally fulfilled his promise to rescue Chinwe, said the child-bride had been handed over to the ministry of women and child welfare in Anambra state.
The activist also commended the commissioner in the ministry, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Anambra command, and other citizens who played roles in seeing that the girl was rescued.
