At least 18 nurses have tested positive for coronavirus in Kano, the Chairman, Kano State chapter of National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives [NANNM], Comrade Ibrahim Maikarfi Muhammad, said on Wednesday.
This comes a day after the Nigerian Medical Association announced that no fewer than 34 doctors have tested positive for the dreaded virus which has been expanding in the state.
The NANNM chairman said nine of the nurses are from National Orthopedic Hospital at Dala; seven are from Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) while two from state hospitals.
Muhammad, who appealed to the government to provide frontline health workers – especially nurses – with Personal Protective Equipments [PPEs], said, 86 samples of nurses were taken and results of 18 have indicated that they tested positive.
Nine of them are from National Orthopedic Hospital, Dala, 7 from Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital and two from state hospitals.
