But for the quick intervention of the Mayor, Engr. Dr. Valentine Buraimoh, residents of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government would have been totally disenfranchised.
Youth Corp recruited has ad-hoc staff by INEC staged a protest. Their grouse was non payment of remuneration as approved by the commission. So voters were seen at polling centers irritated by the inactivity ensuing until Engr. Dr. Valentine Buraimoh arrived at INEC office and waided into the dispute between the youth Corp members and INEC officials.
The Mayor appealing to the Youth Corp members said “Please return to work, I have heard your complains, I promise to engage the electoral officer, investigate what exactly your emolument is and see to it that they are paid. I am the Executive chairman of the Local Government and you can reach me through my numbers or come straight to the Council secretariat on Monday if your matter isn’t resolved as promised”
He also assured the ad-hoc staff that they would be treated fairly, and all incentives accrued to them disbursed accordingly.
Trusting the integrity of the Mayor, the Youth Corp staff returned to work, thus, allowing the electoral process continue peacefully across the Local Government.
