One of the groups backing the Pro-SWAT protest has been revealed to be the Committee of Youth on Mobilization and Sensitization (CYMS), an organization where Tonto Dikeh currently serves as the Director, Socials, and Empowerment.

The ProSWAT movement has been accused of attacking the #EndSARS protesters. The group held a rally at the Unity Fountain in Abuja, on Monday, October 19, with vehicles belong to Tonto Dikeh’s CYMS providing supports to the protesters.

Special Weapons Tactics (SWAT) is the proposed replacement to the defunct SARS which anti-police brutality has rejected. In what appears to be a counter-protest, the ProSWAT group has declared support for the new police unit.

In August, Tonto Dikeh was appointed into her new position at the CYMS programme on repositioning Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the Department of State Services.

According to the group led by Tonto Dikeh, CYMS is a government`s evaluation and monitoring organization; established to sensitize Nigerians both in Diaspora and across the federation on the Federal Government’s programmes, activities and achievements.

At the Unity Fountain on Monday, the organizers of the protest allegedly removed the plate numbers of the government cars at the venue. However, the vehicle with CYMS 001 was not covered.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Governors Forum on Monday, October 19, reached a consensus over the immediate inauguration of a judicial commission of inquiry to review cases of police brutality; especially by operatives of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad across the country.

The governors also appealed to #EndSARS protesters to end the protests to prevent hoodlums from hijacking it.

This was contained in a communique issued by NGF; after the 20th emergency teleconference meeting held on Sunday.

In the communique, which was signed by the NGF Chairman; Kayode Fayemi, said the governors deliberated extensively on the #EndSARS nationwide protests; riots; and demonstrations.
He said the Governors thereafter Resolved to: Activate a Judicial Panel of Enquiry to receive all cases of police brutality by officers of the disbanded SARS Unit. Each State is also expected to kickstart a compensation mechanism for all victims.

Endorse the call by demonstrators for improved governance; predicated on an enforcement regime that takes into cognizance the fundamental human rights as well as liberties of all citizens in the country;

Act on all the Demands made by the #EndSARS protesters raising some concerns; with the shifting nature of the demands; which creates uncertainty on the exact expectations and ultimate goal;

“Finally, appeal for the call off of protests as a continuation grossly exposes the fragile economic fundamentals of the country; particularly as criminal elements and hoodlums have hijacked the protests by maiming innocent citizens; looting; as well as destroying properties.”
