The absence of the presiding judge, Justice Asedayo Akintoye, on Tuesday, stalled the trial of a female lawyer, Udeme Otike-Odibi, who allegedly murdered her husband, Symphorosa Otike-Odibi.
Udeme, 48, is standing trial before a Lagos State High Court in Igbosere for allegedly stabbing her husband to death at their residence on Diamond Estate, Sangotedo, Lagos State.
Newsmen had reported that Udeme also allegedly mutilated the corpse of Symphorosa after killing him.
The offences were said to be punishable under sections 165 (b) and 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Section 165 (b) provides five years’ imprisonment, while Section 223 provides death.
At the Tuesday proceedings, litigants were informed that the court would not sit due to the absence of the judge.
At the last hearing, Udeme’s close friend, Maureen Ofor, had told the court about a text message that Udeme sent to her on May 3 around 12.04am, which stated that she had done something terrible.
Offor, while being led in evidence by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Titilayo Shitta-Bay, had said she was surprised when she saw the message.
However, the matter was adjourned till November 20, 2018.
