The Police Force Headquarters, in Abuja, said it did not provide security for the embattled executive secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Prof. Yusuf Usman.
Force Public Relations Officer, Moshood Jimoh, who made this known in a telephone interview with Daily Sun, said that the Force Headquarters did not engage in the deployment of personnel for such operations.
The police spokesman, who claimed ignorance over the huge number of police personnel who accompanied Usman to the agency’s headquarters, in Abuja, referred our correspondent to the Federal Capital Territory(FCT) Police Command, who he said were responsible for such deployments.
According to Jimoh, “I don’t have any information about the policemen who accompanied the NHIS executive secretary to his office because they are not from the force headquarters.
“We don’t deploy men for such operations, the FCT, commands does because it’s in their jurisdiction so I advice you get in touch with the command,” he said.
However when contacted, the public relations officer of the FCT police and Anjuguri Mamza, said “frankly I don’t know any details about the case.
“I don’t know how the policemen who were there got there.”
Policemen numbering over 50 were said to have accompanied the embattled Usman who was suspended by the NHIS board to his office and forced the gates opened.
Police sources who do not want to be mentioned in print, told Daily Sun, that the men who are from the FCT command were asked to provide security for him after he complained of threats to his life.
The source, however, refuse to disclose who gave the order for the deployment saying “it was an order from above.”
